Top 10 Tuesday – Romance Novel Kisses

Genre Freebie the topic for this week per That Artsy Reader Girl, as soon as I saw romance novel kisses among her suggestions, I knew I had my theme. Christian Romance novels period are like cat-nip to me, be they Contemporary, Suspense, or Historical, so for this list I’ve set about the difficult task of selecting just a few out of a very large pool of my top favourite bone-melting, shiver-inducing kisses.

39302017

ALL Dawn Crandall Book Kisses: An author whose prowess at writing kiss scenes is beyond masterful, you have the stairway kiss between Vance & Violet in The Cautious Maiden, the alcove one in The Captive Imposter, and don’t even get me started on Enchanting Nichollette, which is so chock-full of mind-numbing kisses, I honestly can’t pick one that I love the most! (Goodreads)

Within the Veil (Brandy Vallance): The two main characters Feya & Alasdair are sort of road-tripping it back to Edinburgh in this historical romance story after being kidnapped by gypsies; after a contentious start, they’ve started to develop very serious & passionate feelings for each other by this point, and in an effort to prove something to him while practising to pretend to be husband and wife for whoever they come across so their reputations remain intact, Feya initiates a kiss which turns gloriously steamy very quickly. (Goodreads)

My Stubborn Heart Cover

My Stubborn Heart (Becky Wade): The Matt & Kate kiss I have chosen to spotlight from this book is their very first one, which takes place in a hallway in the middle of an argument thanks to the intense scare Matt had after Kate had to be hospitalized for an asthma attack. The tension which has been building between these two from nearly the very beginning of the book finally finds it’s release in this emotionally charged scene that was really my first introduction to how a fantastic a kiss scene can really be written (Goodreads)

The Frontiersman’s Daughter (Laura Frantz): After an extended period of time where both main characters nearly die from smallpox, they take a trip in a canoe to at last get on the same page in terms of their feelings, and finally, finally share the no holds barred kiss both they and readers have been longing for, pins dropping to the floor of the canoe and all. (Goodreads)

A Noble Groom (Jody Hedlund): One of those kisses that will forever be held up as the standard by which all other kisses in the Christian Romantic Fiction field are measured, this first kiss between Annalisa & Carl takes place outside in the middle of a rainstorm… you can’t get much more classic than that! (Goodreads)

ALL Denise Hunter Book Kisses: Seriously, any time you pick up a Denise Hunter book, be prepared to need a fainting couch! My top two however would have to be Beau & Eden’s first mistletoe inspired one in Falling Like Snowflakes, and Lucy & Zac’s thunderstorm darkened hallway one in The Goodbye Bride. (Goodreads)

Shattered (Dani Pettrey): Having just realised he harbours tender feelings for his best friend’s sister Piper at the end of the first book in this series, Landon is given the hero spotlight in its follow-up Shattered. Watching him try to come to terms with these new-found emotions while struggling to be around Piper now is a lesson in VERY well-written angst, and makes their first kiss all the better. Having FINALLY woken up to her own feelings, I LOVE that she is the one who kisses him first, and then the description of that groan of his when he finally gives in… GAAAHHH! (Goodreads)

Reclaiming His Past (Karen Kirst): Featuring a hero suffering from amnesia, the unknown aspects of his past (especially the question of whether or not he has a wife and family waiting for him), add a delicious spice of angst to their every interaction. There is one kiss they share in particular that is my favourite though, which takes place with a porch railing in between them, and is just stuffed with such enormously powerful barely leashed passion and longing, I feel weak at the knees by the end! (Goodreads)

22504609

Buried Secrets (Irene Hannon): Lisa Grant & Mac McGregor are one of my all-time favourite Hannon couples, and their first kiss after Lisa survives a murder attempt is one of the sweetest and most emotionally satisfying ones in her very large catalogue. (Goodreads)

My Wish is You (Barbara Gee): The connection that Janna & Beckett have is emotionally poignant and electric, and the first kiss they share after all of Beckett’s walls have finally come down is a gorgeous scene I will forever love re-reading more than once at a time. (Goodreads)

Honourable Mentions: Daring Sacrifice (Jody Hedlund); ALL Melissa Tagg Books, Ransom – Airport Kiss (Terri Reed); Sarah Sundin; Dana Mentink; Cindy Roland Anderson, Facade – Train Kiss (Pepper Basham), If Not for Thee – Wedding Night Kiss (Amber Lynn Perry), and many many more!

And there you have it! Thank you for coming to join my little corner of the internet for another fun bookish post 🙂 Now it’s your turn! Are any of the kisses I choose your favourites too? Do you have a favourite that didn’t make the list? Please comment below, and I can’t wait to chat with you all!

    1. Thanks!! And YAY, another historical romance fan!! Enchanting Nicholette is definitely a FANTASTIC novella in the genre which can be read as a standalone, though I would highly recommend all the other books in her Everstone Chronicles as well.

LOVE the theme you choose for your list too!! I’ve only really recently started dipping my toe into the paranormal fantasy romance fiction genre myself, usually sticking to TV shows or films (The Originals and Discovery of Witches being particular favourites) in the past.

      1. I watched the first couple seasons of The Originals, but didn’t continue. I did watch all of The Vampire Diaries though. As you can tell from my list, I used to read a lot of paranormal, but stepped back from it for a while. I think I’m ready to get back to it!

        1. My favourite season of The Originals overall is actually S2, so in my opinion you didn’t really miss much by not watching the latter ones… except for the rest of Kol & Davina’s love story that is (their romance is one of the major reasons I fell in love with the show in the first place to be honest!)

Oh, and speaking of ships in this universe, I wanted to ask; what was your stance on Bonnie & Enzo? For myself, they’re the entire reason I started actively following Vampire Diaries, and are one of my ultimate OTPs.

It’s always fun I think, getting back into something you’ve taken a break from for awhile; hope you discover some awesome new books to add to your favourites shelf!

          1. I believe I did make it through season 2 of The Originals or at least part of it, and I was intrigued by Kol and Davina’s love story. I was also intrigued by Elijah and Hayley’s connection. Of course never having watched more of the show, I have no idea how that turned out. I never read any spoilers so I might have to watch the rest of the series at some point if I can find the time. I liked Bonnie and Enzo as a couple too. 🙂

  1. It’s been SO long since I read ‘Noble Groom’ that I don’t remember specifics, but I always seem to remember it having a good kiss. Denise’s books are always good stories, and you’ve made me want to re-read My Stubborn Heart. I remember so little of this one!

    1. Re-reads of favourite books are always a good idea in my opinion (especially when it’s been so long that it’s almost like reading them again for the first time)! Thank you for commenting, and I apologise for my late reply 😅
